Miracle of Kwan Im

Among the神明 Sen Mings {Hok Kian: Sin Beng} / Deity who was adored in the temple, 觀音佛祖 Kwan Im Hut Co by her followers is considered the one who frequently show the miracle. Someone whom with full of sincerity recite mantras: 南無大悲觀世音菩薩 Nan Wu Da Bei Guan Shi Yin Pu Sa {Na Mo Ta Pei Kwan Se Im Pho Sat}, sooner or later will obtain assistance from Kwan Im, depending on SINCERITY and KARMA of the said person at the time of reciting.

The Miracle of Kwan Im Hut Co was many witnessed & told by her followers. Like the Virgin Mary (in Catholic), who was reported often showed herself or conducted a healing miracle like in Lourdes, of his statue shed tears. The Miracle of Kwan Im Hut Co to be written here is those recorded within the holy book or someone’s experience or testimony:

1. Those contained within Fa Yuan Zhu Lin Book, including telling about Sun Jing De {Sun Keng Tek}. Sun Jing De was a civil servant of a social department in Ding Zhou city, Wei country. Sun Jing De has made a statue of Dewi Kwan Im and extremely diligent worshipped to the Goddess. One day, she was involved in a robbery incident by one of the perpetrators. Without examination & investigation Sun Jing De was then imposed a death sentence. The night prior to the execution of death sentence, she dreamt to meet with a priest who taught her to recite a prayer which then popular with the name Gao Wang Guan Shi Yin Jing {Ko Ong Kwan Si Im Keng} for 1,000 times in order to escape from the death. In the morning, when she was escorted to the spot of the execution of death sentence, Sun Jing De still kept up reciting that prayer with full of SINCERITY. Exactly at the time of death sentence to be executed, Sun Jing De succeeded to complete the number 1,000 prayer. When a machete of executioner cut her neck, the miracle occurred: such machete was broken into 2 parts! Until 3 times the executioner replace his machete, Sun Jing De remained uninjured even a bit!!! All people attended there were exceptionally surprised. When it was investigated on the neck, statue of Kwan Im made by Sun Jing De, it was found there were 3 lines like scratch traces of sharp object. Receiving this report, the Prime Minister Gao Huan then instructed Sun Jing De to be set free from all cases, and suggested this rescuing prayer from Kwan Im to be written and & disseminated. Ever since Ko Ong Kwan Si Im Keng has been known to date.

2. Sun Dao De, someone who was keen of prayed & lived in era of Jin dynasty. In the age of 50 years hasn’t been blessed with any child. A Buddhist monk who lived in the temple nearby his house suggested to recite Guan Yin Jing {Kwan Im Keng}. Ever since, a moment later his wife got pregnancy & then delivered a male baby.

3. On March 1923, an Army officer, Zhang Jiang Jun, departed with his family from Shang Hai to Nan Jing by plane. After flying several moment, suddenly that plane had engine trouble & uncontrolled. Zhang Jiang Jun, who usually often recited Rescuing Prayer of Kwan Im, then, asked all people on board to pray together. Soon after reciting prayer, from the windows of plane was seen Goddess of Kwan Im smiling among the clouds. The plane that nearly crashed to the earth, suddenly able to wet up with the engine able to run again. Secretaryto Zhang Jiang Jun had the chance to take picture of Kwan Im face that appeared among those clouds.

4. In 1973, a US Air Force (USAF) officer who was performing patrol flying above Taiwan Straits, saw a collection of strange black clouds. He then took the picture of it. After being developed, it was seen the picture of Kwan Im standing on a flying dragon. This event was very shocking & had a chance to be published in several prominent newspapers.

5. In June 1977 big pratima Kwan Im in Port Stanley, Hongkong had moved miraculously. This event was preceded by the radiation of light from the precious stone being adhered on the said pratima forehead, and witnessed by many followers (of religion) who at that time solemnly prayed. This news was quoted by Pikiran Rakyat newspaper, Bandung of 7 June 1977 edition, from one of dailies in Hong Kong.

6. Guan Ming, a writer from Malaysia, told his experience published in the book of “Popular Deities of Chinese Buddhisme” of 1985 edition. In early 1979, Guan Ming experienced an extraordinary spiritual event that has changed him into an obedient Buddhist. For weeks, he prayed to God for the recovery of his younger brother who suffered from a malignant cancer. That prayer was heard by the Almighty and unpredictably Kwan Im Hut Co appeared before him. Kwan Im would only to heal his younger brother, but also said that he would be blessed with a son in the following year. His younger brother was decided by a doctor only able to survive in the next several weeks, it was found totally recovered!!! And in 1980 he was blessed with a son, precisely like what uttered by Kwan Im. Ever since, Guan Ming established a Kwan Im Prayer Association that was centered in Malaysia, to disseminate Buddhism and adore Kwan Im.

Talking about the miracle of Kwan Im probably requires a book as thick as Encyclopedia of Britanica, since each follower has his/her own story on his/her experience. To belief such kind of matters, it is not easy for common people, indeed. But if we are convinced that all religion stem from ONE SOURCE, namely God the Almighty, and introduced through different Prophets, in the places of different customs and traditions, and in different era {Person, Place & Period}, we need not to be surprised with such kind of miracle. Since it also occurs on followers of other religions, providing that they have practiced His teaching CORECTLY & SINCERELY.

Because having a religion is actually personal experience and may not be forced to others that of course having different experiences from us. Thus, the truth is we comply with the teachings our respective religion that pursuant to ourselves, without vilifying the religions of others & considering our own religion is the truest. Thereby, we will be able to live peacefully, tolerantly & mutually respected with other religion.

Save Our World: Be a Vegetarian!

Within the framework of commemorate the World Vegetarian Day that falls on October 1 and to support the movement to alleviate global warming process, we herewith publish an article on Vegetarian, forming one ways to save the world from destruction.

Probably we have never thought that our beloved world is suffering from a damage that is going toward destruction.

If we observe, nearly all regions in Indonesia, have recently suffered from various disturbance caused by extreme climate change. Starting from the increasing warm of temperature around us, flood, strong wind, whirlwind and many more climate disturbance we experienced previously. The easiest one to be observed is the increasing climate warm experienced by all cities in Indonesia, even in various parts of the world. These all constitute impact of current global warming.

Based on the latest data from satellite, quoted from an article in December 2007, a weatherman of National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), Jay Zwally predicted that nearly all ices may disappear from Arctic Ocean at the end summer 2012 !!!

Currently, it hasn’t been late to prevent destruction we will confront, but these all will be back to our personal willingness to do something that is seen simple, but it’s very meaningful. For example, to switch off lamps or electric unused appliances (computer, AC, television, dispenser, etc) at home or in the office, substitute lamps with energy-saving lamps, driving environmental-friendly vehicles and one of the most interested things is to reduce eating meat.

What is the relation of eating meat and global warming? In 2006 the United Nations Report entitled “Livestock’s Long Shadow – Environmental Issues and Options”, it was mentioned that activity in relation to livestock raising for human consumption, resulting in greenhouse gas emission is higher than emission of combined motor vehicles’ transportation in the world.

Why is so? The answer is on the extraordinary amount of livestock:

1. Ranch occupies 70% of land which is used to agricultural activity, and 30% of total land surface of the world. Currently, some 70% of land that previously constituted Amazon’s rain forest has been used for planting plants for fodders. This a horrible condition considering rain forest functions as CO2 absorber, and this forest burning adds CO2 volume in atmosphere at the same time omitting CO2 filters that actually we considerably need.
2. Waste in the form of livestock manure containing NO2, it is a compound that is 296 X more potential to resulting in greenhouse gas than CO2.
3. Manure of billion of chickens, pigs & other livestock that are spread all over the world resulting in methane gas (CH4) that is 23 X more hazardous than CO2.

In addition to meat-eating style may damage equilibrium of our planet of earth. The followings are particulars relating to earth destruction resulted in by meat-eating style:

• A. Waste of Clean Water. Nearly ½ of amount of water consumed in the United States are used for livestock. It is required 5,000 gallons of water to produce 1 kg of meat, but it is only required 120 gallons of water to produce 1 kg of wheat. Diet vegetarian only needs 300 gallons of water per day while meat consumption needs more than 4,000 gallons of water per day.
• B. Waste of Natural Resources. In the United States, livestock consumed 70% of existing corn, wheat, and grains products. Cattle breeding all over the world has used up foods that is sufficient to be consumed by 8.7 billion people, more that population of all mankind in the world. World famine shouldn’t happen if we all practice vegetarian life.
• C. Mass Forest Destruction. Each vegetarian saves ½ hectare trees annually! Tropical rain forest suffered from massive denudation every year only for providing livestock area. Some 55 square feet of tropical forest is destroyed only for producing 1 ounce of burger.
• D. Cause of Pollution. Pollution generated by ranch in the United States exceeding whatever industry existing in that country. It occurred since livestock created manure with the amount of 130 X higher than manure produced by population of all mankind, namely 39.5 tons per second!!! Disposal from ranch & slaughterhouse is directly drained off to the river so that it contaminates water sources.
• E. Waste of Energy. More than 1/3 fossil fuel (petroleum, coal) consumed in the United States is spent in livestock sector.

The facts written above provide us a potent weapon to stop all these destruction, namely become a Vegetarian. A research carried out by University of Chicago states that to become a vegetarian is far more effective to embattle global warming than purchasing environmental friendly car such as Toyota Prius.

By become a vegetarian, this planet of earth may change to become cooler within shorter period. Even, not only lighter, but also cleaner. Modern ranch has become the biggest source of water pollution in the world! Disposed manure dames ecosystem of river & sea, damages coral reef, and create disease for human beings. Livestock manure produced by modern ranch in the United Stated reached 5 million ton per day! 100 X higher than produced by human being & far higher than those absorbable by the soil.

In one of documentary films at National Geographic Channel was informed that if ocean temperature rose to a certain point, undersea methane gas content that is frozen so far will be released to the air. If this matter occurs, then it is a “point of no return” with multiplier effects which will change environment drastically. Doomsday … ? Probably occurs if human being is unwilling to change their lifestyles.

Then what concrete action can we do for our the only residence: “Planet of Earth” ? Substitute fuel lavish car with Toyota Prius can only conducted by those who have enough money. But to stop eating meat & shift to be a vegetarian can be carried out by all people and its effect is much higher than other effort. It depends on, willing or unwilling to change habit. You MAY assist in stopping global warming! Every time you feel weather is getting warmer and warmer, or see disaster & climate that are getting more and more uncontrolled, you must start thinking about food you have already eaten today.

Please aware that currently vegetarian issue is no longer just as the matters of ethics, religion and morality. But it has become the only best thing that you can do if you still want to live longer on our beloved Earth!!!

According James Hansen a weatherman of NASA: “We have surpassed the end point. But we haven’t arrived at a point without hope. We still can turn back, but we must take a fast direction!”
