玉皇上帝是根據道教所信奉的至高無上上帝的尊稱，其實，上帝本身是人類或信徒用思想或靈感所無法謀致的載體，而透過其所創造事物，我們便可以認識而相信有一個主宰的存在，那就是唯一的上帝。
天公是一般民間對上帝的通稱，但在古代中國明朝和清朝時代，各君王對上帝所使用的尊稱是以“皇天上帝”為准，即如在“天壇寺”裏所列出名稱。
